CONCUSSIONS MATTER
People of all ages sustain concussions every single day.
But would you know what to do if you, your family member or your friend had a concussion?
Head First aims to empower all Australians to stand up for their brain health and seek help when they have sustained a head injury. We engage with a variety of community groups and challenge all participants to consider why concussions are important and how they can play an integral part in the management of their concussion. We work to reduce the stigma surrounding head injury and promote a culture of encouraging appropriate health-seeking behaviour by all Australians.
Knowledge is power and we want to give all Australians the power to put their head first.
WHAT WE DO
EDUCATION
ADVOCACY
We offer education courses for:
Children in years 6 - 9 (school or sports club based)
Medical and health students
In the coming year we will be launching further education courses for athletes aged 17 and above.
Head First has a special interest in educating those groups most affected by concussions including women, indigenous Australians and the LGBTI community.
We engage with community, industry and government leaders to campaign for formalised education of at risk groups and those in the health industry who diagnose and manage concussions. This ensures the safety of all Australians with a concussion is always put first.
We are currently engaged with The University of Melbourne, the Royal Australian College of Physicians and a number of key stakeholders in the field.
